Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Palo Verde's Winning Streak

After flying high against Bourgade Catholic last Thursday, Palo Verde came back down to earth. The Palo Verde Titans fell just short of the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks by a score of 47-44 on Saturday. The match marked the Titans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Palo Verde's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Ortiz, who went 7 of 16 en route to 16 points. Ortiz is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Adrian Powers, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Lucky Patane was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 16 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds for Yuma Catholic. Noe Zamudio was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Palo Verde moved to 8-2 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak. As for Yuma Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Palo Verde will take on Ironwood Ridge in a tournament on Thursday. As for Yuma Catholic, they will welcome Imperial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Imperial is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.
