Basketball Recap: Oakcrest Victorious

Fredericksburg Christian came into Thursday's game looking for another win against Oakcrest, but Mary Mehan wouldn't allow it. The Oakcrest Chargers walked away with a 34-24 win over the Fredericksburg Christian Eagles on Thursday thanks in part to Mehan, who almost dropped a triple-double with 13 points, 31 boards, and nine blocks. Oakcrest is 9-4 when Mehan posts eight or more rebounds, but 1-4 otherwise.

Another player making a difference was Ryan Sweatman, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and five steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amri Donado, who went 5 for 12 en route to 12 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Layna Thomas, who put up four points and four steals.

Oakcrest's record now sits at 10-8. As for Fredericksburg Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.

Oakcrest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-29 victory against Evergreen Christian on the 7th. As for Fredericksburg Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 41-32 win against Fredericksburg V on the 10th.
