Softball Recap: Granada Hills Charter Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Granada Hills Charter came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Taft Toreadors 8-2. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Elysse Diaz, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lainey Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Granada Hills Charter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matchups.

Granada Hills Charter pushed their record up to 23-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Taft, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Granada Hills Charter will venture away from home to take on Birmingham at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Highlanders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Taft, they will head out to square off against El Camino Real at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Toreadors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Royals have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
