Softball Recap: Lumen Christi Catholic's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Lumen Christi Catholic entered their tilt with Springport on Saturday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted since April 4th.

Bella Wrozek made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last eight contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alison Furnas, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Lumen Christi Catholic's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Springport, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-3.

Lumen Christi Catholic and Springport should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Titans will face off against Hillsdale at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (138 vs. 473). Meanwhile, Springport (ranked 92nd) will meet Concord (ranked 527th) at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
