Baseball Game Preview: Sto-Rox Vikings vs. Riverside Panthers

The Sto-Rox Vikings will challenge the Riverside Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Sto-Rox has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with 16 straight losses, while Riverside will come in with three straight victories.

Sto-Rox came up short against Ellwood City on Friday, falling 8-2.

Meanwhile, Riverside won against Mohawk Area on Wednesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Panthers never let the Warriors get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Zach Hare and Hunter Garvin were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Hare didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Garvin pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hare went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Garvin scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Barber, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

Riverside's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Sto-Rox, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
