Football Recap: Madison Starts Season with Victory Against Wheatley

Madison had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their defense stepped up to hand the Wheatley Wildcats a 24-0 shutout on Friday. For the Marlins, this counts as revenge for the 19-8 win the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Avery Jelks had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 145 yards on only 12 carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. His longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards.

Coming up, Madison will venture away from home to face off against Yates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wheatley, they will host La Marque at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
