Softball Game Preview: Newton Local Indians vs. Arcanum Trojans

The Newton Local Indians are taking a road trip to face off against the Arcanum Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Newton Local made easy work of National Trail and carried off a 13-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Arcanum entered their tilt with Tri-County North on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since April 8th.

Arcanum pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Newton Local, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Newton Local suffered a grim 23-5 defeat to Arcanum in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
