Recap: Macksville Mustangs vs. Cunningham Wildcats
Even though the Macksville Mustangs have not done well against the Cunningham Wildcats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Macksville came out on top against Cunningham by a score of 54-46. Given Macksville's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Cunningham is ranked 252nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Mayce Russell, who scored 22 points along with eight steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Chadd, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Macksville's win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-2. As for Cunningham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
After both having extra time off, Macksville and Central Plains will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 4:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Central Plains will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Cunningham will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kinsley on January 5, 2024. Kinsley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
