Softball Recap: Volunteer Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Volunteer entered their tilt with Grainger on Monday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Grizzlies a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Falcons have won 11 matchups by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Addyson Fisher made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney New, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Emily Walker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Volunteer pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Grainger, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.

Coming up, Volunteer will be playing in front of their home fans against Daniel Boone at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Grainger, they will venture away from home to take on Anderson County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
