Volleyball Recap: Grant Takes a Loss

After a string of three wins, Grant's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Newaygo Lions by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the fifth time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent loss being a 2-1 defeat on September 6th.

Grant started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-8.

Bouwkamp Payton paced Grant's offense, picking up 15 kills. Payton got some help from Longcore Emma and her 15 assists. Emma was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Grant's loss dropped their record down to 19-9. As for Newaygo, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Grant will take on rival Chippewa Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Newaygo is set to square off against their familiar foe Tri County Area at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
