Recap: Decatur Community Red Devils vs. Ness City Eagles
The Decatur Community Red Devils fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Ness City Eagles on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 81-78. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (64), Decatur Community still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Decatur Community saw an underclassman step up: Tyler Ostmeyer dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 rebounds. Ostmeyer is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Davin Jensen, who scored 20 points along with five steals.
Even though they lost, Decatur Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ness City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was William Childers, who scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Childers has scored all season. Cadyn Harley was another key contributor, scoring 22 points.
Decatur Community has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Ness City, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-7.
Decatur Community is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Indians on January 23rd. St. Francis has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 5. As for Ness City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ellinwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday.
