Sandburg (Orland Park, Ill.) ran the third-best all-time indoor two-mile (8 minutes, 43.24 seconds) — the fastest by a prep athlete in 32 years — to place second during the NYRR Saturday Night at the Armory meet in New York City. When he reached 3,000 meters, his clocking of 8 minutes, 7.54 seconds goes into the record books as No. 2 all-time. He was lapped by Olympian Bernard Lagat, but that certainly was no embarrassment, because Lagat set an American record with a sizzling time of 8 minutes, 10.07 seconds.

She won the 55-meter dash in 7.15 seconds, the 300 in 42.43 seconds, the 600 in 1:43.34 and the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 1.75 inches (one-half inch off the state record).

Curtis (River Ridge, La.) pole vault standout Dalton Duvio has signed with Stanford University, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The 5-9 senior also considered Duke, Princeton, Dartmouth and Harvard. He is the defending Class 2A state champion and has cleared a personal-best of 16 feet, 4 inches.
