Football Recap: Orosi's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Orosi extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 5-1. They strolled past the Strathmore Spartans with points to spare, taking the game 40-24. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 27.7 points per game.

Jason De La Cruz produced another solid effort rushing for 260 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. De La Cruz is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 102 every time he's taken the field this season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Orosi was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 312 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 302 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

As for Strathmore, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isaiah Colunga, who rushed for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Colunga also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Strathmore is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gerardo Ruiz, who gained 85 total yards and a touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Orosi is set to face off against their familiar foe Granite Hills at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Strathmore will challenge rival Woodlake at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Colunga and Aldo Rodriguez.
