Football Recap: Paul Cauthen Jr Leads Statesville's Defense on Friday + How To Watch

After only seven points in their last contest, Statesville made sure to put some points up on the board against South Iredell on Friday. The Greyhounds took down the Vikings 47-29. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Greyhounds' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Jaikoda Harrington went supernova, rushing for 52 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 135 yards and one TD on only ten passes. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. A healthy portion of Harrington's aerial production (103 yards to be exact) went to Paul Cauthen Jr.

Statesville's run defense was locked in: South Iredell could only muster 2.2 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Isaiah Crosland stood above the rest. He picked up three sacks and made seven total tackles. Statesville hasn't allowed more than 1.2 yards per carry in three consecutive games.

Statesville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Cauthen Jr picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. Statesville got some further help from Crosland: he picked up three sacks and made seven total tackles.

Despite the loss, South Iredell had strong showings from Brody Hunt, who picked up 63 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and Tristan Cowan, who threw for 221 yards and three TDs.

Statesville's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-2. As for South Iredell, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
