Basketball Recap: Hi-Plains Falls Despite Big Games from Dylon Mccaffrey and Aiden Cordell

Hi-Plains was the 59-19 winner over Rocky Mountain Lutheran when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hi-Plains Patriots took a 49-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rocky Mountain Lutheran Eagles on Saturday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hi-Plains' loss came despite strong showings from Aiden Cordell and Dylon McCaffrey. Cordell dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards, while McCaffrey posted 11 points. The dominant performance also gave McCaffrey a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (75%). Ian Ayres also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Even though they lost, Hi-Plains was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Rocky Mountain Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Blake Harris led the charge by putting up 13 points and four steals. Harris has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Borchardt, who put up five points in addition to 18 rebounds and four blocks.

Hi-Plains' loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, their victory bumped their record up to 6-14.

Hi-Plains wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-22 defeat against Weldon Valley on the 25th. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, they have also already played their next game, a 57-42 loss against Front Range Baptist on the 25th.
