Basketball Recap: Childress Comes Up Short

Childress lost against Abernathy back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Childress Bobcats came up short against the Abernathy Antelopes, falling 55-34. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 653rd, while the Antelopes are ranked 111th).

It was another big night for Mecailin Marshall, who went 12 for 20 on her way to 33 points in addition to seven boards and four steals for Abernathy. Marshall's evening made it 16 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Breanna Shorter, who posted six points.

Childress' loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Abernathy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Childress wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 47-46 defeat against Vernon on the 12th. As for Abernathy, they will challenge New Home at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Abernathy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
