Softball Recap: Malvern Beats Bismarck for Their Fourth Straight Win

Malvern had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Bismarck Lions a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kendall Watson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Takayla Stewart, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addi White, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Malvern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .600 or higher in three consecutive games.

Malvern's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Bismarck, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Malvern will head out to take on Sheridan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Leopards' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Bismarck, they will face off against Arkadelphia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Badgers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.88 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
