Basketball Recap: Bryce Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Manzano over Capital

Manzano was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 60-50 to the Capital Jaguars. The Monarchs were not able to make up for their loss to the Jaguars from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Several Monarchs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Johnson, who posted 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in steals. Kai Youngberg was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 boards.

Even though they lost, Manzano smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.

Manzano's record now sits at 6-13. As for Capital, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.

Manzano didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-52 defeat against La Cueva on the 4th. Capital has also already played their next contest, an 81-52 loss against Eldorado on the 4th.
