Softball Game Preview: Penncrest Lions vs. Springfield Cougars

The Penncrest Lions will head out to take on the Springfield Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Penncrest barely beat Harriton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions blew past the Rams 14-8 on Wednesday. Considering the Lions' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Springfield's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They never let Marple Newtown get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.

Springfield pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Penncrest, their win bumped their record up to 4-6-1.

Penncrest was able to grind out a solid victory over Springfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, winning 4-1. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
