Soccer Game Preview: Evergreen vs. Air Academy

The Evergreen Cougars will head out to face off against the Air Academy Kadets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Evergreen is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games.

Evergreen had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the seven-goal drubbing they dealt Conifer on Tuesday. The Cougars never let the Lobos get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. Give Evergreen's defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Meanwhile, Air Academy's game on Tuesday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They beat Cheyenne Mountain by a goal, winning 1-0. Air Academy wouldn't have won without Grace Bennett, who scored the game-winner.

Evergreen pushed their record up to 11-1-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those six games. As for Air Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3-2 record this season.

Everything went Evergreen's way against Air Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Evergreen made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
