Baseball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Comes Up Short

Thomas Jefferson extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 4-11. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 16-14 heartbreaker at the hands of the George Washington Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Spartans have suffered since March 18th.

Leo McMeekin stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Romeo Villagrana was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

As for George Washington, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games.

On George Washington's side, Rocco Citrone was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Citrone posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of George Washington's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't).
