Basketball Recap: Jayven Welch Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Oxford

Southaven lost to Oxford back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Southaven Chargers managed a 66-62 win over the Oxford Chargers.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southaven to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayven Welch, who went 5 of 8 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Welch is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cameron Hammond, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Southaven's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Oxford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.
