Basketball Recap: Craig Takes Down Ranked Skagway

On Friday, Craig faced Skagway in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Craig Panthers enjoyed a cozy 57-39 victory over the Skagway Panthers. Craig's win was all the more impressive since Skagway was averaging only 25.14 points allowed on the season.

Craig found their leader in sophomore Sara Steffen, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Steffen is now averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Horner, who posted 14 points and six rebounds.

Craig smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Craig's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Skagway, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-1 record.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Petersburg the next time they take the court. Skagway will head out to face Petersburg at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Craig will play them later in the day, at 6:00 p.m.
