Softball Recap: Meridian Comes Up Short

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Meridian nor Alexandria City made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Mustangs fell just short of the Titans by a score of 4-3. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Elena Clark-Wilson spent all 9.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Linnea Mirza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Valeria Wright was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Alexandria City, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-12.

Meridian has already played their next game, a 10-0 loss against Fauquier on the 2nd. As for Alexandria City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-3 defeat against Lake Braddock on the 2nd.
