Baseball Recap: Linden Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Linden unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Hughson Huskies by a score of 7-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 8-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Marco Holguin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jacob Rickets was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Linden's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hughson, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Linden will square off against Summerville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summerville will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Linden surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hughson, they will take on Orestimba at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hughson is facing Orestimba at the right time seeing as Orestimba is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
