Basketball Recap: Fillmore Starts Season with Win Against Vaughn

Fillmore had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 66-56 win over the Vaughn White Tigers. The victory continues a trend for the Flashes in their matchups with the White Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Brendan Banks-Speed was a one-man wrecking crew as he posted 27 points along with seven assists and five steals. Another player making a difference was Ivan Contreras, who put up seven points and four steals.

Several White Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Siddiq Mumin, who earned 18 points and four steals. Mumin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Bryant Gamez was another key player, going 6-for-9 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Vaughn dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Fillmore has already played their next game, a 57-53 win against Cate on the 20th. As for Vaughn, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-52 loss against Foshay on the 21st.
