Baseball Game Preview: Wasatch Wasps vs. Payson Lions

The Wasatch Wasps will venture away from home to take on the Payson Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wasatch is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Wasatch will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Salem Hills, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wasps sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the Skyhawks on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wasps have posted since March 30th.

Ketcher Wade looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Braxton Faller was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Salmon, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Payson faced Pleasant Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Lions came up short against the Vikings, falling 12-2. The loss continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.

Wasatch's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Payson, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Wasatch hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Payson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Wasatch got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 against Payson by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Wasps repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
