Softball Recap: Clayton Yellowjackets vs. Raton Tigers
Clayton had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it six. They lost 16-0 to the Raton Tigers. Considering the last time the Yellowjackets couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
As for Raton, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-9. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won nine contests by 15 runs or more so far this season.
For Raton's part, Haydyn Middlebrook made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Middlebrook has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Marquez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Syriah Vigil also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Raton beat Clayton by a score of 19-0 later that day.
