MaxPreps Top 25 national high school football rankings

Playoff showdowns loom for numerous teams in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

Perhaps the most intriguing bracket is Ohio's Division I playoff. Victories by No. 18 Colerain and No. 24 Moeller mean those two teams will square off this weekend.

Across the bracket, No. 19 St. Edward potentially awaits, if it can get past Austintown-Fitch and, potentially, rival St. Ignatius, which handed St. Edward its only loss of the season.

The Texas 5A-I bracket is littered with equally intriguing showdowns, including No. 2 DeSoto's matchup with previously ranked Coppell.



No. 22 Carroll is also alive in that region, while defending state champion Allen, the nation's No. 3 team, is favored to emerge from Region 2.

Northern California, with No. 6 De La Salle and No. 14 Folsom, also bears watching as playoffs continue.

The Tornado train keeps rolling along. This week, Washington defeated Glades Central 40-18.

To kick off its run toward a 5A title, DeSoto pounded Copperas Cove 67-21.

3. (3) Allen (Texas), 11-0
Allen officially opened up the defense of its 5A-I title on Friday by beating Lake Highlands 63-6.

5. (5) St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 11-0
Head coach Jason Negro's squad defeated Agoura 69-24 in the Pac 5 playoffs.

7. (7) Central (Miami), 9-1
In a high-scoring affair, Central outscored Boynton Beach 55-37.

8. (8) Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.), 12-0
Northwestern's offense continues to hum along with a 55-22 win over West Florence.

9. (9) Serra (Gardena, Calif.), 11-0
Serra downed Pacifica 48-16 to move to 11-0.

10. (10) Katy (Texas), 11-0
With a 70-0 defeat of Memorial, Katy kicks off defense of its 5A-II crown.

11. (11) Mountain Pointe (Phoenix), 12-0
There's not much to dislike about how Mountain Pointe is playing right now. The team downed Red Mountain 48-7.

12. (12) Bellevue (Wash.), 11-0
While alum Myles Jack dominates the collegiate level, Bellevue continues to roll through high school foes, beating Glacier Peak 48-6.



13. (13) Hoover (Ala.), 12-0
After a tightly contested first half, Hoover pulled away from Shades Valley to win 33-14.

14. (16) Folsom (Calif.), 11-0
Folsom hit the 50-point mark for the fifth-straight week in a 50-13 win over Lincoln (Stockton).

15. (14) Miramar (Fla.), 11-0
Monarch provided a challenge, but Miramar prevailed, 31-21.

16. (15) Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), 11-0
Manatee notched a tight victory over Vero Beach in the opening round of the Class 8A playoffs, winning 34-28.

17. (17) Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.), 11-1
Clearly one of the best one-loss teams in the nation, Byrnes blasted Wando 42-14.

18. (18) Colerain (Cincinnati), 12-0
After beating Pickerington Central 38-20, Colerain's season will be on the line this weekend against Moeller.

19. (19) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), 10-1
Rick Finotti's squad looked dominant in a 42-7 playoff win over Cleveland Heights. If not for a loss to rival St. Ignatius, this team would be in the mix for a No. 1 finish.



20. (20) Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.), 12-0
Mallard Creek continued to roll with a 62-7 victory over Ardrey Kell.

In a defensive battle, Jenks prevailed over Owasso 14-0.

22. (22) Carroll (Southlake, Texas), 10-1
Carroll looks like a major threat to win the 5A-I title. It defeated Bowie 56-14.

23. (23) Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 10-2
Bishop Gorman dominated Spring Valley 56-0.

24. (24) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati), 11-1
With a victory over Elder, Moeller did its part to ensure a showdown with Colerain next week.

25. (25) Blue Springs (Mo.), 12-0
Blue Springs continued its romp through Missouri competition with a 63-21 win over Lee's Summit.
