Baseball Game Preview: Marlington Dukes vs. Canfield Cardinals

The Marlington Dukes will face off against the Canfield Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Marlington nor Canfield posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Marlington can't be to happy about their upcoming road contest considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Saturday. They lost 8-1 to Waynedale. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.

Marlington got a good showing from Sam Yoder, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Yoder has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Marlington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Hawthorne, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Canfield came up short against Louisville on Monday and fell 4-1.

Anthony Groner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.
