Soccer Game Preview: Poquoson vs. Kecoughtan

The Poquoson Islanders will head out to face off against the Kecoughtan Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Poquoson came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 4-1 to Warhill. While losing is never fun, Poquoson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Warhill are ranked 34th).

Poquoson's goal came courtesy of Gage Vaughan, which was the first he's scored this season.

Meanwhile, Kecoughtan had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.4 goals) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 5-3. Five seems to be a good number for Kecoughtan as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of goals in their previous game.

Kecoughtan's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those four games. As for Poquoson, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6-1.

Poquoson skirted past Kecoughtan 1-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Islanders since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
