Baseball Game Preview: St. Paul Swordsmen vs. Buena Park Coyotes

The St. Paul Swordsmen will venture away from home to square off against the Buena Park Coyotes at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Buena Park took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Paul, who comes in off a win.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between St. Paul and Paraclete, and St. Paul kept the tradition alive. The Swordsmen walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Spirits on Thursday.

Fernie Soto made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tristan Foster was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalai Benavente, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

St. Paul was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paraclete only posted a batting average of .222.

Buena Park might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-2 to Katella, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Buena Park's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for St. Paul, their record now sits at 12-7.
