The Dickson County Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Collierville Dragons on Friday. Dickson County's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Collierville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Dickson County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Henry County, who was ranked 15th at the time (Dickson County was ranked 19th). The Cougars fell 4-1 to the Patriots on Wednesday. The Cougars have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Collierville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 13-6 victory. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Isabella Flanders made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karrington Mitchell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Hadley Downs was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Collierville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Dickson County's defeat dropped their record down to 32-7. As for Collierville, their record now sits at 21-7-1.
Dickson County beat Collierville 6-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2021. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
