Basketball Recap: Lynchburg-Clay's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Lynchburg-Clay had lost six straight headed into Thursday's matchup, but Lily Ferguson didn't let it get to seven. The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs strolled past the West Union Dragons with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 53-39 thanks in part to Ferguson, who made all 5 shots she took racking up 21 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Joslyn Rockey, who went 5 of 8 en route to 10 points and six boards. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played.

When it comes to explaining why West Union lost, don't look at Madison Stout. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ashlah Staten, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Lynchburg-Clay's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-13. As for West Union, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Lynchburg-Clay is taking a road trip to square off against North Adams at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in North Adams' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Lynchburg-Clay has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for West Union, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-46 win against Blanchester on the 1st.
