The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles will take on the Centennial Bulldogs at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday. Mountain Vista will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Mountain Vista gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Palo Verde. With that win, the Golden Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Sawyer Tipton tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Chase Brock and Alex King did most of the damage at the plate: Brock scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while King scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. King also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Cruz Martinez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Mountain Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palo Verde only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Centennial never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Chatfield as Centennial made off with an 11-0 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.
Jake Turner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Jackson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and five RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
The win made it two in a row for Centennial and bumps their season record up to 9-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10 runs. As for Mountain Vista, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mountain Vista has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
