            Softball Recap: Antwerp Archers vs. Montpelier Locomotives        
        
		
        
        
            Antwerp had lost five straight on the road, but  on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it six. They fell  6-1 to the Montpelier Locomotives. The Archers were not able to make up for their  defeat to the Locomotives from their previous meeting  back in April of 2024.
 Antwerp saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Elle Clem, who  went 1-for-3 with one  triple and one  RBI. That  triple was  Clem's first of the season.
As for Montpelier, the  win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-5. The  victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 12.7 runs over those games.
On Montpelier's side,  Madelyn Hopper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a  run (which was  unearned)  on two hits and racked up 17 Ks. Hopper has been consistent for a while: she hasn't  tossed less than six  strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Zoe Uribes was  incredible,  going 2-for-3 with one  home run, four  RBI,  and one  triple. Those  four  RBI gave  her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was  Lyla Mahan, who  went 3-for-4 with two  stolen bases, one  run,  and one  double.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Antwerp will venture away from home to  face off against Ayersville  at 5:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. The Pilots will roll in looking for their  11th straight  win, something the Archers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Montpelier, they are taking a road trip to  challenge Holgate  at 5:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8  runs per game on average), something the Locomotives will no doubt try to take advantage of.
