Baseball Recap: Discovery Takes a Loss

Discovery fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Auburndale on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bloodhounds by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bloodhounds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 back in February.

Tylor Timmons was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Discovery is 3-1 when Timmons allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Discovery saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edrick Rivera, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI. Evan Devore was another, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Discovery's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Auburndale, they moved to 6-16 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coming up, Discovery will head out to challenge Lake Placid at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Auburndale, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Davenport at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bloodhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncos have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
