Baseball Recap: San Clemente's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but San Clemente ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Beckman Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tritons have posted since April 12, 2024.

San Clemente got a great performance from Bob Erspamer as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Erspamer has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cade Cerone and Barrett Wood did most of the damage at the plate: Cerone scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Wood scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave Wood a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Starling, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

San Clemente kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win (which was San Clemente's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Beckman, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-12.

San Clemente will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
