Baseball Recap: Woodland Christian Wins Going Away Against Mesa Verde

Woodland Christian got themselves on the board against Mesa Verde on Tuesday, but Mesa Verde never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Mavericks. Considering the Cardinals have won 18 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jordan Villanueva was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Villanueva was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Owen Tessier, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Howald, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Woodland Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Woodland Christian pushed their record up to 21-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Mesa Verde, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-7.

Woodland Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mavericks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
