Preview: Matanzas Pirates vs. Father Lopez Green Wave
Matanzas is 3-0 against Father Lopez since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Matanzas Pirates will be playing at home against the Father Lopez Green Wave at 6:00 p.m. Matanzas will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
Last Thursday, Matanzas didn't have quite enough to beat University and fell 3-2. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs Matanzas has scored all season.
Matanzas saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashley Sampselle, who went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson Esselstein, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Matanzas didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 16 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as University only tossed eight.
Meanwhile, Father Lopez scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against St. Joseph Academy as Father Lopez made off with a 23-13 win. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
Having lost for the first time this season, Matanzas fell to 7-1. As for Father Lopez, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Matanzas took their win against Father Lopez in their previous matchup back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 15-0. Will Matanzas repeat their success, or does Father Lopez have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
