Baseball Recap: Heritage's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Heritage brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They never let the Fruita Monument Wildcats get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Saturday. The Eagles not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.

The result came thanks to James Kellogg's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mason VanWyk, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). James Long was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Heritage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fruita Monument only posted an OBP of .192.

Heritage moved to 3-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Fruita Monument, they dropped their record down to 5-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, Heritage will take on Grand Junction at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fruita Monument, they will challenge Palisade at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
