Basketball Recap: Holdrege Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Holdrege hadn't done well against Adams Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Holdrege Dusters blew past the Adams Central Patriots 74-54. The Dusters have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Holdrege got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Garret Johnson out in front who went 7 for 13 on his way to 21 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Johnson's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Baron Medina, who went 8 of 17 en route to 20 points and four steals.

Johnson wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Holdrege was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 21 assists in three consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Adams Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hunter Nepple posted 19 points. That was a full 35.2% of Adams Central's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Austin Vontz was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Holdrege is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.6 points per game. As for Adams Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holdrege will square off against Southern Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Holdrege knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Southern Valley likes a good challenge. As for Adams Central, they will challenge Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Adams Central surely won't give up without a fight.
