Basketball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield lost a heartbreaker to Portland when they met back in January of 2022, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. The Yellow Jackets lost 64-39 to the Panthers. The Yellow Jackets have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Springfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kyler Wilson shot 83% from the field to rack up 10 points and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, Wilson now owns an excellent 45.2% shooting accuracy. Aliyah Terry was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Portland, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.

Coming up, Springfield will face off against Station Camp at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bison's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so the Yellow Jackets' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Portland, they will head out to face off against Greenbrier at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
