Baseball Recap: Stoneham Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lexington on Wednesday, Stoneham came back down to earth. The Spartans fell just short of the Belmont Marauders by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 10-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Stoneham's loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Belmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Stoneham will venture away from home to square off against Wakefield Memorial at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Belmont, they will challenge Arlington at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Spy Ponders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Marauders surely won't give up without a fight.
