Baseball Recap: Bishop Hartley Victorious

Bishop Hartley gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past the St. Francis DeSales Stallions 7-5. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Stallions last Monday, they had to take a 7-4 loss.

Matt Galich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Vincent Mertz was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. He is becoming a predictor of Bishop Hartley's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Zach Parker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Bishop Hartley's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for St. Francis DeSales, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Bishop Hartley will head out on the road to square off against Bishop Watterson at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Francis DeSales, they will welcome Circleville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
