Declo had won five straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 13-5 to make it six. They blew past the Soda Springs Cardinals 15-3. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Trevin Averett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Averett was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Zane Snedaker was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Declo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Soda Springs only posted a batting average of .211.
As for Soda Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games.
On Soda Springs' side, Kolten Peterson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Tim Vedder also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Coincidentally, Declo and Soda Springs will both be playing Malad the next time they take the field. The Hornets will head out to face the Dragons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Cardinals will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
