Preview: Union Star Trojans vs. Rock Port Blue Jays
Union Star has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Rock Port Blue Jays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Star comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 14 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Union Star might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 58-14 to Nodaway-Holt, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Meanwhile, Rock Port scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They blew past Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri, posting a 77-41 win on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Rock Port has managed all season.
Malachi Skillen and Jack Meyerkorth were among the main playmakers for Rock Port as the former scored 13 points and the latter scored 19 points along with four steals. Skillen also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Westyn Amthor was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Union Star bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.0 points per game. As for Rock Port, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Union Star might still be hurting after the 62-37 loss they got from Rock Port when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Union Star avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
