Baseball Recap: Centralia Comes Up Short

Centralia had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-19 to make it 12. They came up short against the Aberdeen Bobcats, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 18-6 defeat on Monday.

As for Aberdeen, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

For Aberdeen's part, Gabe Matthews and Chad Fretts were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Matthews tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Fretts tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Matthews went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Fretts went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Matthews a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aidan Baker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Aberdeen: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Bubba Jones, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
