Basketball Recap: Lauryn Trinidad's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Notre Dame over Green

Notre Dame easily dispatched Clay last Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Notre Dame Titans fell just short of the Green Bobcats by a score of 58-56 on Monday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Titans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-54 back in January.

Notre Dame's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lauryn Trinidad, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Trinidad a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brianne Hicks, who went 5 of 6 en route to 15 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Notre Dame smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Green's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matti Hayslip, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 19 points and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Knapp, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Notre Dame's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Green, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 17-1.

Notre Dame and Green should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Notre Dame will face off against East at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday up 432 places (342 vs. 774). Similarly, Green (ranked 226th) will meet Eastern (ranked 637th) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
