Softball Preview: Lone Pine Eagles vs. Trona Tornadoes

The Lone Pine Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Trona Tornadoes at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lone Pine knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Trona likes a good challenge.

Lone Pine took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Immanuel Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Crusaders 11-9.

Meanwhile, Trona had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Tornadoes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.

Lily Mehan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base.

In other batting news, Eva Stitt and Autumn Dunn did most of the damage at the plate: Stitt got on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs, while Dunn went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Dunn has posted since back in March. Samantha Burley was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Lone Pine's record now sits at 11-4. As for Trona, their record is now 9-5.
